This short course is grown out of a new landmark publication by the campaign group ‘Right to Roam’ Wild Service: Why Nature Needs You (edited by Nick Hayes and Jon Moses) and lays out a vision for repairing nature. Featuring the contributions of five featured authors who have written about education, healing, belonging and community, Wild Service is more than a book. It is a philosophy, a call to action, a meditation, a celebration and an invitation.

We’ll take time to get to know how flowers such as lime, rose & elder can help us navigate this world. Learn how to forage for and make your own glycerite tinctures and rose water.

In this May session, we'll focus on Hawthorn as medicine for the heart and ask: what does that actually mean for us as we build community care? We’ll share the deep history and folklore of May day and the May tree alongside other herbs for resilience. Learn how to preserve wild herbs and prepare them as tea, and carve your own rubber stamp for printing all your own future medicines labels!

In this April session, we want to share the foundational skills of wild basket weaving and how to make nourishing spring vinegars. You’ll leave with the beginnings of a basket, and skills and medicine to share with others.

On a walk around Brandon Hill, you’ll explore the vast range of wild ingredients including hogweed, elderflowers and much more, before collecting your own ingredients and returning to Hyde & Co where our expert bartenders will teach you a variety of different methods to create your own dried plants, powders and syrups, before sampling them in two specially created cocktails using the exceptional Four Pillars Gin, distilled in the woodlands of the Surrey Hills.
